Australian Sport Legends Set Sail With Cunard
Adam Goodes, Karrie Webb and Mark Beretta to join Brett Lee on star-studded voyage
Sydney, Cunard has announced three Australian sporting icons who will join legendary cricketer and commentator Brett Lee on the luxury cruise line’s inaugural Voyage of Sporting Greats on 13 February 2024.
Former AFL-legend and Australian of the Year 2014 Adam Goodes, Australia’s most successful female professional golfer Karrie Webb, and Sunrise sports presenter and host of multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games Mark Beretta. New Zealander Amanda McLaren, daughter of legendary New Zealand formula 1 race car driver Bruce McLaren will also be joining the line-up on Queen Elizabeth for the sailing next year.

Queen Elizabeth’s program for the voyage will boast a raft of engaging talks, bespoke sporting activities and tailored sport themed shore excursions in Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart. The sport stars will play a pivotal role in inspiring guests not just on stage, but also during more intimate experiences on one of the world’s most famous ships.
Adam Goodes said he was really looking forward to joining the illustrious line-up of sporting greats: “This is a spectacular opportunity to join the other sporting icons and connect with guests onboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth. I am looking forward to sharing stories about my career, what drives and inspires me and what projects I am currently working on. I am specifically keen to talk to fans onboard and create great memories of the sailing for them.”

Mark Beretta, who has hosted many major sport broadcasts over his career and worked on 13 Olympic Games, will do what he does best and facilitate our talent as they share their remarkable stories, while sharing some of his own while he’s at it: “Sharing stories of Australian sporting history and anecdotes from behind the scenes of the world of sports, plus talking to some of the biggest stars in Australian sport is going to be a treat for me and our guests. I’m also looking forward to getting on the road with guests to host a very special excursion!”

Departing on 13 February 2024, Cunard’s inaugural Voyage of Sporting Greats will sail a roundtrip from Sydney to Tasmania and back over 7-nights, with calls in Hobart, Port Arthur and Melbourne. Fares are available from AUD$2,349 / NZD$2,582 per person for a twin share Balcony Stateroom.
At 90,900 tonnes, Queen Elizabeth is the second largest ship ever to sail in Cunard’s fleet. She is home to just over 2,000 guests and 1,000 crew and features more than 10 restaurants and cafés, a Games Deck including paddle tennis, croquet, hitting bays and bowls, a two-storey library, a ballroom, and the Royal Court Theatre that will feature performances from Australian contemporary circus company Circa in February 2024.

Lee is recognised as delivering one of the fastest deliveries of all time. His record quickest delivery was 161.1 km/h in 2002. He is known for his consistency of pace, going over 150 km/h throughout his entire career. He is also widely regarded as one of the best pace bowlers ever to have played the sport, and finished his test cricket career with 310 wickets, and his One Day International career with 380 wickets. Following his retirement in 2015, Brett now plays a major role in cricketing media around the world and has several businesses and philanthropic interests.
Adam Goodes is a symbol of resilience and optimism and an inspirational role model as he works to create a better Australia for all. An Adnyamathanha man, indigenous community leader, former professional footballer in the Australian Football League (AFL) and dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes was named Australian of the Year in 2014, in recognition of his tireless community work in addition to his sporting achievements. Adam is also the co-founder and director of GO Foundation as well as the co-founder and CEO of Indigenous Defence and Infrastructure Consortium (iDiC). He is driven to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to achieve economic independence.
Karrie Webb is one of Australia’s most celebrated golfers. Over a career spanning more than two decades, her 41 victories place her 10 career wins ahead of the next closest active player (Juli Inkster). In addition to her incredible golfing ability, Karrie has made it a goal of hers to use her platform and means to make a difference for others. She is an avid supporter of women’s amateur golf in Australia, as well as a proud supporter of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. She sponsors the Karrie Webb series, a program rewarding the Top Two Australia Amateur Women Golfers. Her extensive work and support of the Reeve Foundation earned her the Christopher Reeve Spirit of Courage Award in 2011.
Mark Beretta is best known as the sport presenter on Australia’s number one breakfast TV show, Sunrise on Channel 7, and as the host of Seven’s major sport broadcasts. His list of big event roles includes MC at the AFL’s Brownlow Medal, an Olympic Games Flagbearer and Team Ceremonies, Olympic Welcome Home Ceremonies, and some of Australia’s biggest sporting, corporate, government and military events and awards nights. He has hosted multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games, the Supercars, the Australian Open Tennis, the Sydney-Hobart yacht race, Tour Down Under Cycling and much more.
Amanda McLaren is Bruce’s only child and a Brand Ambassador for McLaren Racing, McLaren Automotive, a Trustee of the Bruce McLaren Trust and Patron of the Women’s Motor Racing Associates Club (“The Doghouse”) and of Motorsport Endeavour. Amanda was born in London, England, (and grew up in Walton on Thames, Surrey,) in a house called Muriwai, named after the beach in New Zealand, where her father won his first race. As a Registered Nurse, Amanda started her career in the Operating Theatre before more senior roles in management and education. She sat on New Zealand nursing and resuscitation advisory boards prior to working with McLaren Automotive.
